Both 409 and 409 steel plate ss are resistant to stress corrosion cracking but have limited weldablity. 409 steel plate ss should not be used in the as-welded condition for dynamic or impact loaded structures.

Can be successfully welded employing SMA, GMA and GTA processes. When not used in a high temperature environment, filler metal AWS ER309 is acceptable for use. For stronger, more resilient welds at high temperature, use weld filler such as 409 Cb, AWS ER430 or W18 Cr-Cb.

Ferritic stainless steel stabilised using titanium. It was designed for use in automotive exhaust systems where higher temperature corrosion resistance than mild steel/galvanised is required. It may develop a light patina in use but withstands general environmental corrosion well. It is also used in electrical kiosks and distribution boxes.
