The benefits of using this new alloy include its resistance to pitting corrosion as well as resistance to those environments that contain chlorine. Chlorine is acidic and often has a negative impact on conventional alloys such as grade 304. The combination of nitrogen and molybdenum in the ASTM A240 317L Shims also curbs the occurrence of crevice corrosion in marine environments. The most suitable use for this alloy is in the field of air pollution control. The corrosion resistance properties in combination with good mechanical strength are why many grade 317L Sheet Suppliers recommend using these sheets or plates to build flue gas desulfurization systems.
